What are common mistakes made by first time house buyers?

Nobody wants to make any mistakes on what could be the most important purchase of their life! But how do you know if you are making a mistake? My high school history teacher, Mr Dancher, had a great point when he said, “The more you know, (…theatrical pause…) the more you know.” While this expression is obviously redundant, (and might have been a play on an Aristotle quote) it has a eery way of hinting that you are doing the right thing.
